About
Nancy VanReece
Nancy VanReece’s creative journey is a vivid tapestry of vision, versatility, and service. An accomplished abstract painter and printmaker, her work has been acquired by institutions including Vanderbilt University and Arizona State University, and is part of collections in cities across North America—from her hometown of Oklahoma City to her chosen home of Nashville, Tennessee, as well as Tulsa, Virginia Beach, Kitchener, Ontario, and Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Her abstract paintings, known for their dynamic energy, layered textures, and nuanced color palettes, found a long-term home on Music Row in Nashville. For years, the gallery served as a space where visitors, musicians, executives, and art lovers alike would connect with her work. Collectors frequently left with her pieces, drawn to the balance of emotional depth and compositional elegance that define her style.
In 2015, a new chapter unfolded when her art studio transformed into the campaign headquarters for her successful run for the Nashville Metro Council. For the next eight years, she devoted her talents to public service, representing her community with the same commitment and authenticity that infused her art. While council meetings replaced gallery openings, her artistic eye never rested.
During this time, VanReece began exploring a new medium: photography. As a student of the evolving capabilities of iPhone camera technology, she discovered a passion for street and landscape photography. Traveling both for work and leisure, she honed her ability to capture moments and details others might overlook—the fleeting play of light across a quiet street, the texture of a weathered wall, or the stillness of a horizon at dusk.
Her photographic work reflects the same sensibility that has always guided her painting and printmaking: a dedication to seeing beyond the obvious, finding beauty in the understated, and revealing patterns in the seemingly chaotic. The images she creates are imbued with a narrative quality, inviting viewers to step into a scene and experience it as she did in that moment.
Today, Nancy VanReece offers her photography to clients across the United States, expanding her artistic reach while maintaining her roots in Nashville’s creative community. Whether in the bold abstractions of her canvases or the quiet strength of her photographs, her work consistently reflects a deep respect for the interplay of light, form, and emotion.
Her career, marked by both artistic achievement and civic leadership, is a testament to the ways creativity can intersect with community engagement. VanReece continues to inspire others to look closer, to notice what might otherwise go unseen, and to recognize the transformative power of art—whether it hangs on a gallery wall, enriches a public space, or lives within a private collection.
From the painted abstractions that first brought her recognition to the photographic compositions now finding their own audience, Nancy VanReece’s work invites us all to see the world with fresh eyes—and perhaps, to see ourselves within it.
